Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence, Italy
I decided to pick this particular angle of the Florence Duomo for two reasons. In any image or drawing the most impact that be gained is from the use of angle and using the technique of the eye to lead it into the centre of the drawing, so I have tried to use the edge of the church’s roof to this effect. Secondly i wanted to show the impressive size of Filippo Brunelleschi’s dome and how it dominated and still dominates the Florence skyline.
I deliberately omitted detail on the horizon of the Florence skyline to emphasise the detail of the dome and cathedral in the foreground to give it more impact and presence in the drawing
For this drawing I used a mixture of ink and pencil on A3 Bristol Board paper, it took approximately 200 hours to complete
